Christmas Day 2008

Hello Family and Friends.

I am so very ashamed to realize I haven't posted one little teeny weeny word here...since JULY! My goal, hope, resolution, is to be more active updating our family's goings on.

Quick update - our little man J is now 5. Yep, 5 years old just 2 days ago, on the 23rd. I'm not sure what 5 has in store for us. I do hope the 'rumors' of the Fabulous Fives is not a rumor.

A is ahead of schedule for the Terrifying, Torturous threes. I thought maybe a late entry into 2s but I regret to report I was incorrect. *sigh* Oh well. This time we know what to expect so that's a point ahead.

Christmas has been wonderful, so far. Kids got a couple of awesome gifts from The Man. They enjoyed a much overdue visit from Grandma L today too. It was a very special gift for us all.

I am off from work the remainder of the year. I promise to do my best to get back here in that time and post pictures from the last few months, including the great holiday pics of the kids.

Happy Birthday To Me

Well, gotta start somewhere.

I'm a year older. Maybe I feel it, maybe I don't. I'm not quite sure yet.

Work is going well for me. In fact, I recently returned from 1. my first solo business trip, 2. my first international trip. Yep, I've now got a stamp in my passport. Where did I go, eh? Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It was fun and an absolute test of the New and Improved Mrs. Bear (the less Type A Mrs. Bear). Without all the gory details here are the highlights: took 24 hours to get from SoCal to the office of the hosting company, I will never rent a car without a GPS unit again (unless maybe I have a navigator to watch for street signs and such), I will remember to bring comfy walking shoes (just in case I'm going someplace fun that's not just around the corner).

I guess there were a few highlights to the trip as well. I made a new friend or two, had an opportunity to get to know the folks I work with a little better. A great group of people are working the program I'm on. WOW! Oh, and I spent my b-day in Calgary and had a great time. I actually had a candle to blow out and my wish came true. MM and JM - thank you! Ah - the wish...I had an uneventful return home - no flight delays, etc. The worst was a gate change -- whoop tie do.

Kids update? Munch and Screech are perfect. Dinosaurs turn Baby Bear J's ears off far too often for our liking but hey, it is what it is. He's doing great in school and learning something new every day. He's always got a new word or concept to amaze us with.

Baby Bear A is the same, just bigger, bossier, moodier, and more beautiful with each passing day. And she is scary smart. That girl - I'm terrified. She'll outsmart both Momma and Poppa, and we're pretty smart too.

Both kids finished up swimming lessons today. BBJ was 'sent up' to the level 1 class from the preschool one - he's ahead of the game. Go figure, mom and dad were fish in our younger days. BBA is a dare devil. She couldn't get enough of jumping off the side and swimming with her noodle.

I'll work on getting updated pics online.

Our love to all - friends and family.

Happy Birthday, My Darling Baby Girl

And she's no baby now. Officially she is considered a preschooler though she's not in preschool just yet. She's a firecracker, that one.

We had a fabulous day full of friends, family, food, drink, presents, cake, and great conversation.

Baby Bear A has her favorite gifts from the day - the ones her mommy, daddy, and big brother gave her: a lovely pink backpack of her own, a purple and pink cell phone (Baby Bear J picked it out for her) and of course, the stroller for her baby, which goes everywhere with her now - including our quick run to Sears yesterday. She is quite nuturing and loves her baby. I think the stroller was a great idea...maybe we are on the road to Stroller Freedom =)

Not much else going on. Here are pics from the day with a couple of random ones from January thrown it - I thought they were too cute not to share.

Love to all!

Once again, too long between posts

So much has been going on this year; it's been a bit crazy.

We've had a very reasonable Winter and Spring is peeking her head out. Momma, Poppa, and Baby Bears had a little adventure in the snow. It was our cubs' first visit and what fun they had. J wasn't too thrilled with freezin' his little paws off but that's what happens when the gloves come off. A had trouble keeping hers on as well. She knew better than to touch the pretty white stuff for too long.

Easter has come and gone but not without the requisite Egg Hunt. Our church has an empty lot that is perfect for Egg Hunts. With Grandma L, Auntie V and Uncle T, and Momma and Poppa Bear in tow, our Baby Bears searched high and low, in the grass, in the weeds, and in the pretty flowers for eggs. Lots and lots of eggs in fact. This was A's first egg hunt and she was a pro in minutes. J's priority was checkin' out the loot along the way. Of course, far too much candy is still in the house. I'll have to find a way to make it go away soon. I know, I know - just throw it away.

Poppa Bear is doing well at work and finding his niche. His travel has stopped for the time being, giving our family time together. My Fab Hubby has been working to clean up our yard and get it ready for some much needed updating. With the Winter rains comes the weed of the season. This year it's Fox Tails - glad we don't have a dog right now.

I've been traveling a little for work. My trips are no more than 3 days - that's just on the border of "Too Long" for the Bear family to be apart. I do miss Poppa Bear and our Cubs a ton while I'm away but try to get some rest while I'm gone. This last trip had me in Baltimore. It was a little wet and far too cold for this thin blooded SoCal chica (mid 50's). We were finished with our meetings earlier than planned so a co-worker and I toured DC for a bit. I haven't been to DC since I was...hmmm...10 - our 5th grade class trip. Our priority was to see the cherry blossoms. They were just a couple of days past their peak and more beautiful than I had expected.

Baby Bear J is doing fantastic in pre-school. He is learning Spanish, is writing his own name and recognizes many words. He's 4 now you know and thinks he's 40 - well, not quite, but you get the idea. He is also riding his bike without the training wheels. He ended 2007 on 2 wheels. "I'm 4 now. I don't want the little wheels anymore." Poppa Bear took them off and away Baby Bear J went. Have I mentioned what a fabulous Big Brother Bear he is? He's just awesome in that department. His sister adores him immensley.

Baby Bear A is a pistol. She's in the Terrible Twos now - Oh joy! And just as we were recovering from Baby Bear J's Terrifying Threes. At least this is the last time we have to walk this path. The great thing for us is we know what to expect and don't panic during a tantrum - we usually look at her and giggle. Baby Bear A is definitely a girl - loves all things pretty- her earrings, cute hair styles (thank you Grandma G - our daycare provider), and her pink bicycle. She's also quite the little Dare Devil and super bossy. Wonder where she gets that from - hmmmm.

OH! I almost forgot - We got Snow on Valentine's Day. I've been waiting 4 years for it and what a bummer - I was in lovely Huntsville, Alabama, and missed it all.

I do hope to stay current here. If too much time passes, feel free to drop me a note and Yell At Me ;-)

Love to all,
Momma, Poppa, and our Baby Bears

Has it really been this long???

Sorry I've been slackin' in the updates here but life sure is crazy with kids, hubby, work, and household.

I will try to update the weekend, complete with zanny pics of the kids. In the mean time, this is a test post from my shiny new phone - it's called a Crackberry for a reason! =)

Welcome to 2008!

Happy New Year to all. 2008, being an even numbered year, will prove to be better than 2007. Well, that's what 'they' all say anyway - even number years are better. So I guess I'm in for a good one (40 this year) and the kids too - J is now 4 and A will be 2. Funny - dh will be 39 so that puts him Odd Man Out - LOL.

December was a VERY busy month. The first big event was the failed visit with Santa. Oh well. D and I took our own pics of the kids for Christmas - we did good. See?

J had his birthday party on the 15th. The guest list included Grandma and Grandpa J, a few friends from preschool as well as new friends we met in the aftermath of the fires - in fact, a co-worker and his family. Anyway, it was loud, busy, and fun. I'm not sure what I was thinking with 4 screaming 4yo boys and a couple of girls tossed in for good measure but J had a blast and that's all that mattered. He made out pretty well too.

He had a second birthday fest on his actual Birthday. Grandma L and Auntie V made it for yet more cake and presents. Poor J had trouble with all the gifts - birthday from 2 sides of the family, friends and the like AND the Christmas presents. I include a snapshot of Miss A - she would NOT let go of that one gift for J for anything. Even distraction with other toys failed. I would like to bring your attention to the last picture - Jace standing next to a cardboard box. Take note of the height differences and I'll get back to you.

And this brings us to Christmas. All I can say is WOW - too much paper, too many presents for the kids to wrap their little hands around. Santa could not have been better to the kids - going to have to speak to him about the spoiling thing ;-) All J asked for was a quad and a quad he got. A also got a new set of wheels. She's still not too sure about the car but she's warming up to the idea of it all. J got a big mack truck, tailer and back hoe from Grandpa D. That's what was in the cardboard box. Check out the picture of J with the actual contents of that box - and A with the shipping box. Mommy and Daddy were gifted a Time Out chair which A has claimed for herself. She has yet to put on a real time out but loves sitting in that chair. J just enjoys setting the timer. Strange Kids! The day itself was busy. After naps we headed out to my sister's for dinner. The food was delicious and the company was good. Even with all the yummy goodness of the holiday, it was too much for the kids. We might stay home on Christmas Day from here on. We'll see.

Let's see what's up for all of us in this new year.
